Mototeck Undertail

Please read these instructions from beginning to end before you start the installation. Should you have any questions, please contact Mototeck before proceeding. If you do not feel comfortable doing this job yourself, it is suggested that you have an experienced Motorcycle Technician perform the installation.

1. Place the bike on a stand, preferably a swing arm stand.

2. Remove the front seat.

3. Remove the solo seat cowl or rear seat.

4. Remove the panel on top of the Tail light.

5. Disconnect the tail light, signal light and license plate connectors.

6. Disconnect the cable from the lock assembly. Remove the Tail section.

7. Put the tail section on a flat, clean surface and align the Mototeck undertail, make sure it is perfectly centered and secure it with temporary pieces of masking tape as shown in the picture below.

8. Using the holes in the Undertail as a guide, carefully drill holes in the Tail section using a 3/16" (4.5mm) drill. An alternate method would be to use a fine tip marking pen to mark the location where the holes are required, then remove the Undertail and drill the holes.

9. If you plan to use the License Plate Bracket supplied in the kit, mark the locations for the holes and drill them at this time. Use the picture below as a guide for drilling the holes.

10. Mount the License Plate Bracket using the screws and Nutserts provided.

Use the Nutserts as nuts as shown in the picture below.

11. Install the undertail using the 5 screws and rubber nuts. The removal of the tail light would assist the installation, as there is not much working room in the Tail section.

12. Install 2 bolts in the bottom of the trunk as shown by the yellow arrows in the picture below. Use the two bolts that held on the stock license plate bracket, and use 2 nuts that were removed in the fender removal step.

13. Reinstall the tail section on the bike. Connect the cable lock. Route the wiring through the hole in the left side of the trunk area.

14. CONNECT THE WIRING: IMPORTANT NOTE: The wires for the LED Turn Signals have inline resistors. If you remove the resistors by shortening the wires, the LED's will fail upon applying electrical power. Do NOT remove these resistors. There are inline resistors for the License plate light as well. On this installation, all the black wires are ground wires, both on the bike and on the Undertail. It is suggested that you use the stock Turn signal connectors with the new installation. The grey connector (Marked by the Red box in the photo) is the right Turn signal and the black connector (Marked by the Blue box) is the left Turn signal. The License plate connector (Green box) is also black, but is of different shape. The Black wire is connected to the Black wire with the Yellow stripe. The Red wire to the Green wire.

15. Test the Turn Signal and License Plate lights before any taping or soldering of wires. Secure the wiring in the truck area using tape or Zip ties.

16. Assemble the remaining parts of the bike.

It suggested that you install a heavy duty Turn signal relay. In most cases, after installing LED's, the signals will flash at a very rapid rate. This relay installed in place of the stock unit will return the Turn signal flashing rate back to normal. We have these units in stock. Our Part Number is 3100610.
