Mototeck Undertail

Please read these instructions from beginning to end before you start the installation. Should you have any questions, please contact Mototeck Innovation before proceeding. If you do not feel comfortable doing this job yourself, it is suggested that you have an experienced Motorcycle Technician perform the installation.

1. If possible, place the bike on a swing arm stand.

2. Remove the rear seat or seat cowl.

3. Disconnect the Tail light, Signal light and License Plate light connectors.

4. Unbolt and remove the rear fender.

5. Remove the 6 plastic fasteners that hold the stock undertail and remove it.

6. Using the pictures below as a guide, drill two 1/4" holes in the stock undertail to allow the Signal and License Plate light wires from the Mototeck Undertail to pass through the stock undertail. In this example, the technician is using a Uni-bit, but a normal drill bit is fine.

Below: This picture shows the holes after drilling.

7. Run the wires from your new Mototeck Undertail up through the bottom of the stock undertail as shown in the picture below.

8. If you plan to use the license plate bracket supplied in the kit, now would be a good time to drill the three mounting holes, the location of which, has been marked on the Mototeck Undertail. Attach the bracket using the screws and Rubber Nut Sert fasteners supplied. Use the Nut Serts as nuts and attach them with the flanged side of the Nut Sert away from the plastic as shown in the next picture. If you prefer, you may use nuts and bolts. Depending on what state that you live in, you may have to drill some holes in your License plate or the License Plate Bracket for the holes to line up. We do have an optional Stainless Steel Bracket available.

9. CONNECT THE WIRING: In this installation, all of the black wires are ground wires, both on the Undertail and on the bike. It is suggested that you use the stock Turn signal connectors with the new installation. The gray connector is the right Turn signal and the black connector is the left Turn signal. The License plate connector is also black, but is of a different shape. The Black wire is connected to the Black wire with the Yellow stripe. The Red wire is connected to the Green wire. IMPORTANT NOTE: The wires for the LED Turn Signals have inline resistors. If you remove the resistors by shortening the wires, the LED's will fail upon applying electrical power. Do NOT remove these resistors. There are inline resistors for the License plate light as well.

10. Test the Turn signal and License Plate lights before you do any taping or soldering. Secure the wires in the trunk area using tape or Ty-wrap.

11. It suggested that you install a heavy duty Turn signal relay. In most cases, after installing LED's, the signals will flash at a very rapid rate. This relay installed in place of the stock unit will return the Turn signal flashing rate back to normal. We have these units in stock. Our Part Number is 3100610 .

12. Assemble the remaining parts in reverse order of removal. Check all fasteners for tightness and security,
